1. Plateau Couch
Plateau Couch is a new variety of couch developed in Australia, that we can now offer our customers.
Plateau is a new strain of couch developed in Australia. It has much of the same hard wearing and good looking characteristics of other couch varieties, yet differs greatly in its growth pattern. "Plateau" is so named for its unique trait of strong lateral growth. This means that instead of the main growth energy tending upwards, it actually prefers to grow sideways and so can spread itself across large areas faster than any other variety.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Non irritant
- Medium invasion characteristics
- Low to medium maintenance
- High tolerance to waterlogging
- Excellent resistance to shade
- Excellent wear, recuperative and green up rate
- Excellent winter colour retention
- Good disease and pest resistance
- Requires minimum 2-4 hours direct sunlight daily
- Propagated from stolons (runners) or turf rolls
MAINTENANCE
Plateau should ideally be mown every 3-5 weeks at a height of approx. 8-12mm during summer and in winter mow every 6-8 weeks and raise the mowing height to approx. 14-18mm. An even ground is important and annual to biannual scarifying might be necessary, ideally during the spring months.
USES
Residential and commercial lawns for a soft formal appearance. High wearing areas e.g. golf courses, tennis courts, bowling greens, where hard wearing/close mowing is required. Parks and gardens, sports ovals, soil stabilisation areas, roadsides, urban in-fill areas.
2. Winter Green Couch
Wintergreen Couch is a hybrid couch, blue-green in colour, with a fine, dense, soft leaf texture with high colour retention under low winter temperatures and partial shade. Has low seed head formation if mown regularly. A deep-rooted, dense network of fine stolons and rhizomes make it a tough turf with a very smooth soft but hard-wearing surface. This turf is used at the Lake Karrinyup Golf Course for the fairways.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Non irritant
- Low invasion characteristics
- Low to medium maintenance
- High tolerance to waterlogging
- Excellent wear, recuperative and green up rate
- Excellent winter colour retention
- Good disease and pest resistance

MAINTENANCE
Wintergreen should ideally be mown every 10-14 days at a height of approx. 8-12mm during summer and in winter mow every 3-5 weeks and raise the mowing height to approx. 12-16mm. An even ground is important and annual to biannual scarifying might be necessary, ideally during the spring months.

Kikuyu
kikuyu Turf is a popular variety of lawn for both domestic and commercial use due to its affordable price and excellent durability. kikuyu Turf holds its colour well in most conditions, and makes an especially good lawn on large areas due to its high wearability, ability to recuperate, and high thatching tendency. kikuyu Turf can be found in most parks, ovals and reserves throughout Perth. An example of kikuyu Turf from WCT can be seen extensively around Kings Park, in particular the Kings Park War Memorial.
kikuyu Turf originated in the East African highlands. Its common name was derived in 1903 from the Kikuyu people of Kenya, who traditionally, lived east of the Aberdare Mountains, where the grass thrives. kikuyu Turf was introduced to Australia by seed in 1919 and then propagated vegetatively for more than 50 years.
CHARACTERISTICS- Low irritant

Plateau
Plateau is a new strain of couch developed in Australia. It has much of the same hard wearing and good looking characteristics of other couch varieties, yet differs greatly in its growth pattern. "Plateau" is so named for its unique trait of strong lateral growth. This means that instead of the main growth energy tending upwards, it actually prefers to grow sideways and so can spread itself across large areas faster than any other variety.
An important side-effect of this lateral growth characteristic, is that the frequency of mowing required is greatly reduced. Even in peak growing seasons Plateau requires mowing only every 3-5 weeks as opposed to other varieties which need weekly mowing to maintain optimum appearance.
The reduced maintenance requirements of Plateau can provide significant cost savings for large applications such as sporting grounds and golfing fairways.
The reduction in mowing frequency of Plateau also benefits the environment, as when lawn is damaged (during mowing) it releases chemicals that can contribute to the creation of photochemical smog.
Another benefit of Plateau is that it is also very shade tolerant . This enables it to be used in a diverse range of applications.
Plateau is currently being used in many high profile applications across Australia such as:
- The Royal Sydney Golf Club
- Optus Oval
- Colonial Stadium
- The Gabba
